Our background is theatre and live entertainment.

Nich Smith has worked extensively in theatre, in many countries and over many years.

This experience gives us a working knowledge of lighting control systems, sound systems, video systems, rigging techniques, and scenography. This knowledge is also valuable outside of theatre practice, for example experience with large format projection and colour changing or moving lights, all of which are increasingly available in the architectural markets.

New technologies and creative applications of existing technologies are often developed first in the entertainment industries and associated visual arts, and our work in these sectors informs our lighting designs.

We believe the best lighting technique and lighting practitioners come from the live entertainment industry, and we are inspired by the directors, performers, technicians, and design teams that we work with.

Our design process ensures that our theatre designs fulfill the basic functions of illumination and assisting an audience in understanding a production, as well as enhancing and commenting on the issues or ideas a production raises where appropriate.
