Glasgow as a city of light has, over the
past few years, been recognized as one of the leaders in
reinterpreting itself with the use of light.
HYB is keen to further these aims and its focus is a
wonderful piece of transport infrastructure that is part
of millions of Glaswegians’ and visitors’ experience of
the city.
Like many of the lighting projects the city has been
responsible for, we propose to reinterpret what is
considered by some to be an eyesore and reveal its
iconic beauty.
Themed projections will fill the windows of the South
Portal building in one wide screen image, examining the
nature of time, travel, communication, and sense of
place.
Exterior lighting on the portal building and set in to
the approach roads will emphasise the shape and scale of
the tunnel and associated urban forms.

description of the designs for the South Portal of the
Clyde Tunnel.
